Information & Referral

All of us in the helping professions provide information and give referrals at some point in our work. Learn how to provide effective I&R, professional standards for I&R, specialized I&R skills, and how to meet specific needs of special populations.

   

Communication Skills

Learn about the communication skills that underlie all our work and personal interactions. Gain new insight and practice establishing rapport, assessing client need, active listening, effective questioning, and dealing with challenging callers.

   

Advanced Communication Skills

Build on your basic communication skills by examining your listening habits and learning specific techniques for different situations. Topics covered include specific techniques to deal with difficult situations, enhancing workplace communication, healthy boundaries, dealing with stress, and finding inspiration in clients.

   

Self-Care for Service
Providers

Direct service work in I&R or social services can be very stressful. Learn how to recognize the signs of compassion fatigue, burnout, and vicarious trauma. We will investigate personal, professional, and organizational solutions, covering topics such as healthy boundaries, workplace communication, self-care techniques, and resiliency building. Come away with an action plan for how to better care of yourself.

Custom Training and Training Consultation Services

bc211 can work with you to develop customized training to suit your organization's particular needs. In the past we have worked with agencies like the Red Cross, Problem Gambling Division and Settlement Workers in Schools to develop customized I&R training or to deliver workshops on such topics as family violence, sexual assault, alcohol and drug misuse, relevant systems of service, and assisting specific populations.

Costs for customized workshops to be determined with individual organizations.
